According to reports, the collision occurred around 2:55 p.m. on May 29 along Wingdale Mountain Road near Clove Valley Road. Authorities stated that a 2007 Freightliner box truck, carrying furniture and registered to Hernandez-Torres LLC, lost control while descending a steep hill. The truck veered off the southern shoulder of the road and struck multiple trees.
The driver, a 32-year-old from Elizabeth, New Jersey, was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, his passenger, 38-year-old Mario Ernesto-Hernandez, also of Elizabeth, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe brake failure was a key factor in the crash. The incident led to a four-hour road closure as officials from several agencies processed the scene.
