Kansas City, MO (December 21, 2025) – One person is dead and two others are critically injured following a wrong-way collision early Saturday morning in Kansas City.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 3:30 a.m. on December 20, 2025, near the intersection of Independence Avenue and Jackson Avenue. Investigators say a silver Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Independence Avenue when it collided head-on with a silver Ford Taurus.
The impact left the Ford’s driver critically injured and transported to a local hospital. The Malibu’s driver, who sustained life-threatening injuries, was also transported but later pronounced dead at the hospital. A front-seat passenger in the Malibu was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved. This marks Kansas City’s 65th traffic-related death of the year, according to police.
