Buffalo, NY (December 22, 2025) – A 70-year-old woman was tragically killed in a hit-and-run crash Saturday evening on Kensington Avenue in Amherst, according to local authorities.

According to the New York State Police, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. on December 21 in front of 1970 Kensington Avenue. Police say Cynthia Sitterle, a Cheektowaga resident, was in the roadway when she was struck by a 2022 Jeep Compass driven by 57-year-old Jennifer Ortiz.

Ortiz fled the scene before police arrived. Cheektowaga Police later located her at her residence. After further investigation, Ortiz was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

Cynthia Sitterle was pronounced dead at the scene. Amherst Police continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information to call 716-689-1311.
