Spring Grove, IL (December 23, 2025) – An elderly woman is dead and another woman remains in critical condition following a devastating house fire Friday morning in the 38300 block of North 6th Avenue in unincorporated Spring Grove.
According to the Illinois State Police, the Fox Lake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:58 a.m. after callers reported an explosion and flames coming from the home. Emergency radio traffic confirmed people were trapped inside.
A 52-year-old man living in the house attempted to rescue the women—identified only as an 83-year-old and a 55-year-old—but was forced to exit due to heavy smoke and intense heat. He sustained minor injuries.
