According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred around 8:11 a.m. on December 26 at the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and El Portal Way. Police say a 61-year-old Rohnert Park man was riding a scooter northbound along Santa Rosa Avenue when he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe that was turning left out of a parking lot onto southbound Santa Rosa Avenue.
The impact of the collision was fatal, and the scooter rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The 30-year-old driver of the Tahoe, a Santa Rosa resident, remained at the location, called 911, and cooperated fully with investigators.
