Chicago, IL (December 30, 2025) — A stolen vehicle caused a violent crash early Monday morning in the Wrigleyville neighborhood, leaving two police officers injured after their marked squad car was struck and heavily damaged.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash occurred around Racine Avenue and Waveland Avenue, just west of Wrigley Field, on December 29, 2025. Authorities said a stolen Hyundai Elantra ran a stop sign and collided with a southbound Chicago police squad car. The impact forced the police vehicle onto the sidewalk and into a tree, while the Elantra continued on to strike three parked cars.
Two officers inside the squad car suffered serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for care. The 18-year-old male driver of the Elantra was critically injured and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was also taken into police custody.
