Pend Oreille County, WA (June 3, 2025) — A tragic two-vehicle collision last week claimed the life of a Deer Park woman on Highway 2 near Newport.
According to reports, Washington State Patrol responded to the crash around 8:32 a.m. on May 28. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 2 and Farrs Lane, roughly eight miles south of Newport. Authorities said 87-year-old Nancy L. Strand was driving a 2016 Subaru Forester when she entered the roadway and collided with a northbound 2019 Toyota Prius driven by 58-year-old Nelson L. Antoniuk of Nine Mile Falls.
Strand was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Antoniuk sustained injuries and was treated at Newport Hospital.
Officials confirmed that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash. The incident remains under active investigation.
