Tracy, CA (January 5, 2026) – A deadly single-vehicle crash took place Friday morning along State Route 4 west of the Middle River Bridge, resulting in the death of a passenger and the arrest of the driver, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. on January 5. A silver Nissan was traveling westbound on SR-4 when witnesses observed the vehicle swerving and nearly colliding with oncoming traffic multiple times. Officials said the driver eventually lost control, veered off the south edge of the road, and overturned into nearby water, coming to rest on the vehicle’s roof.
Bystanders were able to remove both the driver and a passenger from the wreckage. The passenger was taken to San Joaquin County General Hospital and later pronounced dead. The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into county jail.
