Bakersfield, CA (January 9, 2026) – One man is dead following a violent rollover crash involving a Freightliner and a Honda CRV on Wednesday morning in the Bakersfield area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:12 a.m. on January 7 at the intersection of Bear Mountain Boulevard and Wible Road. Investigators say a 2011 blue Honda CRV was traveling south on Wible Road at a high speed when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection.
At the same time, a 33-year-old Fresno man was driving a Freightliner westbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard at approximately 55 miles per hour. The Honda collided with the right side of the semi-trailer, and the impact caused both the Honda and the Freightliner to overturn. The wreckage came to rest across both directions of Bear Mountain Boulevard.
The driver of the Honda sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The Freightliner driver was not hurt and is cooperating with authorities.
