According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at around 8:30 a.m. on January 7 in the 17300 block of State Route 94, directly in front of Cal Fire Station 30. A 30-year-old man riding a 2021 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound when a 2023 Toyota Tacoma, driven by a 33-year-old firefighter from Imperial Beach, turned left into his path while heading east.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The firefighter, who was driving his personal vehicle, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in San Diego.
