Cobb County, GA (January 16, 2026) – A Douglas County deputy was hospitalized early Sunday morning after a vehicle slammed into two law enforcement vehicles on an Interstate 20 exit ramp.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident occurred around 4:45 a.m. on January 11 on the westbound ramp from Interstate 20 to Riverside Parkway. At the time, Georgia State Patrol troopers and Douglas County deputies were at the scene of a previous high-speed chase that ended with a PIT maneuver.
Authorities say the patrol cars were stationary with emergency lights activated when a 2015 Kia Forte failed to follow Georgia’s Move Over law. The Kia first sideswiped a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SUV and then crashed into the rear of a state trooper’s vehicle. Both the deputy and the trooper were inside their vehicles when the impact occurred.
The deputy was taken to WellStar Douglas Hospital for treatment, while the trooper reported discomfort but declined immediate medical attention.
