Waverly, MO (January 21, 2026) – A deadly two-vehicle crash occurred Friday evening, January 16, on an ice-covered stretch of Highway 65 near Waverly in Lafayette County, leaving one woman dead and multiple people injured.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 6:33 p.m. when a 28-year-old woman from Marshall lost control of her 2009 Ford Focus while driving southbound. Her vehicle crossed the center line and struck a northbound 2021 Ford Explorer head-on.
The driver of the Ford Focus was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:54 p.m. by a responding paramedic. The driver of the Explorer, a 32-year-old woman from Chillicothe, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital. A 35-year-old male passenger and two children—ages 2 and 4—were also injured and received treatment at the same hospital.
All individuals involved were reported to be wearing seat belts. Both vehicles were totaled and removed by Jackson County Tow.
