Liberty, OH (June 8, 2025) – A powerful explosion shook a Liberty neighborhood Saturday night, critically injuring three people and causing extensive damage to a home.
According to reports, Liberty Fire Department crews were dispatched around 9:25 p.m. June 7 to a home on East Montrose Street initially for a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the residence had exploded, scattering debris and damaging nearby properties.
Liberty Fire Chief Douglas Theobald stated that the blast may have involved illegal fireworks, although the investigation remains in its early stages. Three individuals suffered critical injuries and were transported to area hospitals for urgent care.
The house sustained catastrophic damage and will require demolition after the ongoing investigation concludes. The bomb squad was also deployed but later cleared the area of any additional explosives. Residents in surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution but have since returned.
