Royal City, WA (August 1, 2026) – Four members of a Tacoma family were killed and five other people were injured in a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi truck Tuesday afternoon in rural Royal City. The fatal crash occurred just after 4:30 p.m. on July 28 at the intersection of Dodson Road South and Frenchman Hills Road West.
According to the Washington State Patrol, authorities reported that a passenger vehicle was attempting to cross the intersection when it was struck broadside by a semi truck. Investigators have not determined all of the circumstances surrounding the collision, although preliminary findings indicate the driver of the passenger vehicle failed to yield the right of way. Authorities also reported that speed and impairment are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
Four occupants of the passenger vehicle, identified as 34 year old Martin Tran, 69 year old Joseph Tran, 66 year old Theresa Tran, and 39 year old Thomas Tran, all of Tacoma, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, Michael Tran, sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for treatment.
Three occupants of the semi truck suffered non life threatening injuries and were transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
