Manchester, NJ (August 12, 2026) – A Whiting man suffered critical injuries after being struck by a passenger vehicle Sunday night while attempting to cross County Route 530 in Manchester Township, according to police. The accident occurred at approximately 9:37 p.m. on August 9 at the intersection of County Route 530 and Swift Circle.

According to the New Jersey State Police, Manchester Township police officers responded to the scene and discovered a 2013 Toyota Camry with significant front-end damage and an unresponsive pedestrian in a grassy area near the roadway.

Authorities identified the injured pedestrian as 43-year-old Richard J. Fescharek of Whiting. Police said the Toyota Camry, driven by 63-year-old Rocco Lanzetti of Wrightstown, was traveling west on County Route 530 when Fescharek entered the roadway. The impact reportedly threw the pedestrian approximately 50 feet toward the northwest corner of the intersection.

Fescharek sustained multiple injuries described as potentially life-threatening. He was airlifted by medical helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for emergency treatment.

Lanzetti was not injured in the collision.

County Route 530 remained closed for several hours while investigators documented the scene and crews cleared the roadway. Manchester EMS, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Accurate Towing assisted at the scene.
