Solano County, CA (August 31, 2026) – A fatal wrong way car accident early Sunday morning on Interstate 505 in Solano County claimed the life of a Vacaville woman and resulted in the arrest of another driver on suspicion of felony driving under the influence.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. on August 30 on southbound Interstate 505 just south of Putah Creek Road near Winters. Investigators said the crash involved a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and a Nissan Kicks.
Authorities reported that a 45 year old Vallejo man driving the Chevrolet Tahoe allegedly missed an exit, made a U turn on the freeway, and began traveling the wrong direction in the southbound lanes. The Tahoe then collided head on with the Nissan Kicks, which was being driven by a 66 year old woman from Vacaville.
The driver of the Nissan Kicks, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not publicly released her identity. The Tahoe driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence after receiving medical clearance.
Investigators said three additional vehicles were damaged after striking debris from the initial collision. Southbound Interstate 505 was temporarily diverted at Putah Creek Road while emergency crews investigated the crash and cleared the roadway. The freeway reopened at approximately 4:20 a.m. The investigation remains ongoing.
