Richardson, TX (September 2, 2026) – A three-vehicle crash on South Central Expressway Sunday evening claimed the life of a 36-year-old man and left another driver injured in Richardson.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. on August 30 in the southbound lanes of the 100 block of South Central Expressway. Authorities identified the deceased as Michael Barrera, 36.
Investigators said a Ford pickup truck was traveling southbound at a reduced speed in the left lane because of a blown tire when it was struck from behind by an Infiniti sedan driven by Barrera. After the initial collision, both vehicles came to a stop in the left lane, and Barrera, the driver of the Ford pickup, and a passenger in the Infiniti exited their vehicles.
Police reported that a passing Volkswagen sedan attempted to avoid the stopped vehicles but struck Barrera as he stood near the center concrete barrier. Barrera sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Volkswagen also collided with the Ford pickup truck, injuring its driver, who was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities said the Infiniti passenger and the Volkswagen driver were not injured.
