Caroline, NY (September 18, 2026) – A mid-morning head-on crash in Tompkins County sent two drivers to hospitals on September 17, including one man who was later flown to Rochester for additional medical care.
According to the New York State Police , troopers responded to the 3300 block of Slaterville Road, also known as New York Route 79, in Caroline after receiving a report of a two-car crash with injuries. Investigators said a 2010 Chevrolet HHR driven by a 42-year-old Richford man was traveling eastbound when it was involved in a head-on crash with a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 32-year-old Newark Valley man.
Fire department personnel removed the 42-year-old driver from his vehicle. An ambulance transported him to Cayuga Medical Center before he was flown by helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester for further treatment. The 32-year-old driver was transported by ambulance to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital for treatment.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to assist with the investigation. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
