Redding, CA (September 27, 2026) – Five people were killed and one person was seriously injured in a fiery head-on crash on State Route 299 near Whiskey Creek Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at about 9:10 p.m. on September 19. A Honda Civic carrying three people was traveling westbound on State Route 299 while a 2007 Toyota Prius with three occupants was heading eastbound.
Investigators said the Honda crossed the double-yellow lines for an unknown reason and entered the eastbound lane, where it collided head-on with the Toyota. Both vehicles caught fire, and flames spread into nearby brush.
All three occupants of the Honda died at the scene. The Toyota driver also died at the scene, while both passengers were hospitalized with serious injuries. One passenger later died.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office identified two of the five people killed as 52-year-old Sharlene Anna Black of Anderson and 19-year-old Mason David Baker of Redding. Authorities continue working to identify the remaining victims. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
