According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on September 26 near Cape Horn Creek. Investigators said 32-year-old Edward Aruja of Vancouver was riding a Yamaha motorcycle north on State Route 503 when the motorcycle entered the southbound side of the highway and collided head-on with an approaching Subaru Crosstrek.
Aruja suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that he was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.
