New York, NY (June 21, 2025) — A tragic incident in Central Park claimed the life of a bicyclist Wednesday following a collision with a pedestrian near East Drive and 97th Street.
According to reports, the fatal crash occurred on June 18 as 43-year-old Salvador Nico-Garcia of the Bronx was riding northbound on East Drive. While traveling through the park, he collided with a 41-year-old pedestrian who was using the crosswalk to cross from east to west.
The impact caused Nico-Garcia to be ejected from his bike, and he struck his head on the curb. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.
The pedestrian involved suffered minor abrasions and declined medical attention at the scene. No arrests have been made as the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate.
