Punaluu, HI (June 21, 2025) — A tragic head-on crash Tuesday night in Punaluu claimed the lives of two people and critically injured two others, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred just before 9:00 p.m. on June 17 along Kamehameha Highway. Authorities say a 28-year-old woman was driving southbound with three passengers — another 28-year-old and two 19-year-olds — when her vehicle veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old girl.
Following the impact, the 28-year-old’s car overturned, ejecting its occupants. Rescue crews from the Honolulu Fire Department used hydraulic tools to extricate those trapped. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the 28-year-old driver and one 19-year-old passenger dead at the scene.
The remaining passengers were transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The 17-year-old driver of the other vehicle sustained only minor injuries and was hospitalized in good condition.
The crash is under active investigation by local authorities.
