Muscle Shoals, AL (October 3, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run incident in Muscle Shoals claimed the life of a 25-year-old Nashville woman on Saturday night. The accident occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. on George Wallace Boulevard. Responding officers found Jamya B. Shanes lying near the roadway with severe injuries; she was declared deceased at the scene.
Witnesses stated that they were walking with Shanes during the evening hours, between Patriots Drive and Sixth Street. For reasons yet to be determined, a dark-colored truck driving down the roadway struck her and fled the location. Muscle Shoals police, with assistance from Tuscumbia police, identified the vehicle based on witness descriptions and a license plate number, leading them to a residence in Tuscumbia.
At the residence, authorities discovered a damaged Explorer Sport Trac, showing extensive damage to the front passenger side and hood, along with what they believed to be human hair.
Police took a 74-year-old Tuscumbia man into custody and plan to charge him with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
