Hampton, VA (June 23, 2025) – A fatal crash involving three vehicles claimed the life of a motorcyclist Sunday afternoon on Interstate 64 near Hampton University.
According to reports, Virginia State Police responded to the collision around 2:05 p.m. on June 23 in the eastbound lanes at Settlers Landing Road. A 2024 Suzuki GSX motorcycle and a 2022 Nissan Murano were stopped in traffic when a 2000 Ford Excursion failed to stop, striking the motorcycle from behind.
The impact ejected the motorcyclist, 32-year-old Christopher Matthew Dawson, and the Ford continued forward, running over him. Dawson was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.
The driver of the Ford Excursion, Dionicio Moreno, has been charged with reckless driving. Authorities confirmed that neither speed nor alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
