Clarkstown, NY (June 24, 2025) – A wrong-way collision on Interstate 87 early Saturday morning resulted in the death of a New York man and injuries to another driver in Rockland County.
According to reports, the incident occurred just after 3 a.m. on June 22, less than a quarter mile from Exit 12. State Police say 33-year-old Brian Tortora was driving a 2024 Subaru WRX north in the southbound lanes when his vehicle crashed into a Volvo truck hauling a trailer. Moments later, the Subaru struck a second vehicle — a Freightliner tractor-trailer.
The force of the collisions left Tortora’s Subaru mangled in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Volvo truck was transported to Nyack Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Freightliner driver was not injured. All three drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
