Scott, MO (June 25, 2025) – A passenger was injured Tuesday evening when a tire from a towed unit broke loose and struck another vehicle on Interstate 55 in Scott County.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m. on June 24 along the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 at the 83.4 mile marker. Authorities said a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 45-year-old woman from Sikeston, was towing a unit when a tire detached and hit a 2018 Mazda CX9 traveling behind it.
The Mazda, operated by a 73-year-old man, also from Sikeston, sustained minor damage but was able to be driven from the scene. A 61-year-old female passenger in the Mazda suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
Both vehicles involved were headed northbound and no other injuries were reported.
