Lompoc, CA (July 3, 2025) — A single-vehicle crash near Lompoc claimed the life of a driver when a truck overturned and landed in a dry irrigation canal Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene along West Ocean Avenue just west of Douglas Avenue at approximately 12:20 p.m. on July 2. Investigators say the driver of a Chevrolet truck was heading westbound on West Ocean Avenue when the vehicle veered off the roadway, overturned, and rolled into a dry concrete canal. The driver, who was the only occupant of the truck, did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved, and officers have not yet released the victim’s identity pending family notification. West Ocean Avenue was closed for several hours between Douglass Avenue and De Wolff Avenue while CHP officers conducted their investigation but has since reopened to traffic. Authorities continue to look into what caused the truck to leave the roadway.
