According to reports, California Highway Patrol officers responded just after 9:40 a.m. on July 6 to North Laughlin Road, west of Laughlin Road, following a report of an overturned vehicle. Troopers discovered a Ford Edge SUV that had crashed into a concrete pillar and rolled down a 12-foot embankment.
Authorities believe the man was driving westbound near the airport when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the SUV, left the roadway, and struck the support structure before overturning. The driver, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP noted that the actual time of the crash remains uncertain and may have occurred anytime between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
