Port St. Lucie, FL (July 8, 2025) — An 80-year-old local man has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred last month on Northwest St. James Drive, according to authorities.
According to reports, Nicolas Gomez of Port St. Lucie passed away around 2 a.m. on July 6 while being treated at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. The initial crash took place on June 19 around 8:37 p.m. at the intersection of Northwest St. James Drive and Northwest Manville Drive.
A preliminary investigation by Port St. Lucie Police revealed that Gomez was driving a Mitsubishi on Northwest Manville Drive when he attempted to turn left onto Northwest St. James Drive to head north. At that same time, a 23-year-old woman driving a four-door Infiniti was traveling southbound on Northwest St. James Drive, leading to the collision. The impact was severe enough to cause the Infiniti to roll over, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Dominick Mesiti.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to this fatal crash as they work to determine any contributing factors.
