Lake County, OR (July 8, 2025) — A tragic rollover crash claimed the life of a Kenworth truck driver last Wednesday afternoon in Lake County. The fatal incident occurred around 3:49 p.m. on July 3 near Lakeview along Highway 140.
According to reports, the Oregon State Police determined that a white Mercedes Sprinter van, driven by Daniel Klinkert, 48, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was traveling westbound on Highway 140 near milepost 1 when it entered the intersection with a southbound Kenworth commercial motor vehicle pulling double trailers. In an attempt to avoid colliding with the van, the Kenworth, operated by Nicholas Cardoza, 61, of Lakeview, swerved off the roadway and rolled over.
Cardoza tragically died at the scene despite emergency response efforts. Klinkert, the driver of the Mercedes van, was uninjured in the incident. The crash caused significant traffic impacts, with the highway shut down for approximately six hours during the on-scene investigation. Local law enforcement, EMS, and fire departments assisted Oregon State Police with the response. The crash remains under investigation.
