Summerhill, NY (July 9, 2025) — A tragic accident unfolded Monday evening when a 2017 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck overturned along State Route 90 in the town of Summerhill, Cayuga County. The New York State Police at SP Auburn responded to the scene at approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 7, 2025, after receiving reports of a serious one-vehicle crash.

According to reports, a preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck, driven by a 51-year-old male, was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control. The vehicle exited the north side of the roadway and overturned. The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the truck and pronounced deceased at the scene.

A passenger, identified as Lawanda H. Eaton, age 47, of Cortland, New York, sustained no apparent injuries but was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse as a precaution. She remains in stable condition.

The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and the Locke Fire Department all assisted at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
