Ridgefield, WA (July 9, 2025) — A devastating rear-end collision early Saturday morning on Interstate 5 near Ridgefield claimed the life of a young Portland woman and left four others injured. The tragic accident occurred around 4:52 a.m. on July 6, 2025, in the southbound lanes near Delfel Road, according to the Washington State Patrol.
According to reports, 19-year-old Sadie L. Bobo of Portland was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Skylar M. Wainis, 23, of Longview, Washington. Authorities say Wainis rear-ended another vehicle while traveling south in the first lane, causing his car to cross multiple lanes, strike a cable barrier, and come to rest on the left shoulder. Bobo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second vehicle, driven by 76-year-old Young H. Chun of Beaverton, Oregon, veered off the roadway, crashed through a Washington Department of Transportation fence, and stopped while blocking Delfel Road. Chun and his passenger, 69-year-old Bikja Sung, both wearing seatbelts, were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Washington Medical Center with injuries.
Another passenger in Wainis’ vehicle, Octovio L. Aguilar, 19, of Portland, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was also hurt and hospitalized. Wainis himself was injured and taken to the same hospital. He now faces charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
Investigators have not confirmed whether Wainis was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The Washington State Patrol continues to review all circumstances surrounding the collision.
