Enfield, CT (July 11, 2025) — A serious multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 91 North in Enfield left two Connecticut State Police troopers injured Thursday morning. The incident happened around 7 a.m. on July 10 near Exit 48.
According to reports, Troopers Christopher Genovese and Matthew Cerri were responding to a crash when they were struck by an Acura TSX driven by an 18-year-old from Waterbury. Genovese had been standing outside his cruiser while Cerri was inside his parked vehicle on the right shoulder with emergency lights activated. The Acura reportedly hydroplaned through standing water in the left lane, spun across northbound lanes, and slammed into the troopers.
Genovese was thrown 50 feet onto the roadway and suffered serious injuries, including a broken femur. Cerri sustained a concussion and has since been treated and released from the hospital. The driver and two passengers in the Acura were also hurt with injuries described as minor to moderate.
Eyewitnesses said the collision forced the patrol car into the grass shoulder. The Connecticut State Police Union has emphasized the importance of slowing down and exercising caution near emergency responders.
The crash resulted in the closure of Interstate 91 North between Exits 47W and 48, with significant traffic backups reported for miles while crews worked to clear the scene.
