Teen Arrested After Route 2 Crash in Preston, CT — 2 Seriously Hurt (June 28, 2024)

Preston, CT (July 12, 2025) — Nearly a year after a violent three-vehicle collision left two people seriously injured in Preston, a Norwich teenager has been arrested in connection with the crash.

According to reports, Daniechka Garcia-Martinez, 19, turned herself in this week after Connecticut State Police obtained a warrant following an extensive investigation into the June 28, 2024 wreck on Route 2. The crash occurred around 2 p.m. when Garcia-Martinez, driving a 2008 Honda Accord westbound, veered across the right shoulder, hitting a curb that sent her vehicle back across the lanes. Her Honda struck a 1989 International S Series 1754 truck traveling west in the left lane, spinning out of control into the path of an eastbound 2023 Ford Bronco, which collided with the driver’s side of the Honda.

The truck, pushed partially into the eastbound lane, then struck the rear driver’s side of the Bronco before careening off the road and hitting multiple trees. Both Garcia-Martinez and the truck driver were trapped in their vehicles and suffered serious injuries requiring hospitalization. The Bronco’s driver sustained minor injuries.

State police determined that Garcia-Martinez, who only had a learner’s permit at the time, was unlicensed and driving alone. Investigators said she was speeding when she lost control of her vehicle. She now faces charges including second-degree assault, reckless driving, failure to drive in the proper lane, and operating without a license.
