According to reports, the Florida Highway Patrol responded around 4:30 a.m. on July 16 after a semi-trailer traveling southbound in the outside lane veered into the center lane and sideswiped a van hauling a vehicle. The impact forced both the semi-trailer and the van into the median, causing the semi’s load of plastic pipes to spill across the interstate. A third vehicle was also involved after striking the scattered pipes.
Authorities confirmed that the driver of the semi-trailer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cleanup crews remain on scene to remove debris and address a fuel spill on the northbound side of the highway. As of 5:15 a.m., southbound traffic was moving slowly through the far right lane, while northbound drivers were using the shoulder to pass the scene.
