Livermore, CA (July 17, 2025) – One person was killed and another critically injured Tuesday evening in a head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 84 near Livermore.
According to reports, the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene at approximately 6:19 p.m. on July 16. A gray Lexus was traveling westbound on Highway 84 when the driver reportedly lost control, entered the eastbound lanes, and collided head-on with a blue Honda.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The Lexus driver was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Their identity and current status have not been publicly released.
The crash led to the closure of Highway 84 in both directions between Interstates 680 and 580, with Caltrans announcing the shutdown via social media at 7:40 p.m. CHP estimated the closure would remain in effect until at least 9:30 p.m. as investigators examined the scene.
