Mesa, AZ (July 17, 2025) – A man was killed Wednesday morning after his pickup truck slammed into an overpass and burst into flames along the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa.
According to reports, the crash occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. on July 16 near Broadway Road. Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers and Mesa Fire & Medical crews responded to the scene after a Ford F-150 collided with the concrete support structure of the overpass.
Upon impact, the vehicle caught fire, and emergency personnel confirmed that the male driver died at the scene. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident.
The northbound and westbound lanes of the Loop 202 were closed at Broadway Road for several hours while crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene. All lanes reopened by around noon. DPS has not released the identity of the victim, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
