Wawayanda, NY (July 18, 2025) – A man from Slate Hill has died following a single-vehicle crash that occurred late Wednesday morning in the town of Wawayanda, according to state police.
According to reports, the crash was reported at approximately 11:47 a.m. on July 16, 2025. Emergency responders were dispatched to Ridgebury Road where a vehicle had gone off the roadway and crashed into a telephone pole.
Troopers determined that 66-year-old Kevin P. Demarest, the sole occupant and driver of the vehicle, was heading southwest when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway and struck the utility pole. Demarest was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Authorities are continuing to examine the events leading up to the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
