Westbury, NY (July 19, 2025) — A tragic and unusual incident occurred earlier this week in Westbury, New York, where a man died after being pulled into an active MRI machine while wearing a metal chain.
According to reports, the 61-year-old victim had entered an unauthorized room inside Nassau Open MRI on Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2025, while a scan was already in progress. Nassau County Police say the man was wearing a large metallic chain around his neck, which triggered a deadly reaction with the machine’s powerful magnetic field.
The force of the MRI drew the man into the machine, causing what officials described as a “medical episode.” Emergency personnel responded quickly and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead on Thursday afternoon.
The victim’s name has not been released. An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
