Kansas City, MO (July 31, 2025) — A deadly two-vehicle collision shut down westbound Interstate 70 for several hours Wednesday evening near Oak Grove and Grain Valley, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

According to reports, the crash occurred just after 5:00 p.m. on July 30. Authorities say a car traveling eastbound on I-70 attempted to change lanes and struck the front passenger side of a pickup truck. The impact caused the car to spin out of control and flip into the median, eventually coming to a stop in the westbound lanes.

The driver of the car was ejected during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously hurt.

The interstate reopened by 8:00 p.m. as crews cleared the scene and continued the investigation.
