Osceola County, FL (October 21, 2024) — A tragic accident occurred early Friday morning on Florida’s Turnpike, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old Orlando woman. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened just after 1 a.m. in the southbound lanes near mile marker 202, south of Whittier.
The woman was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport when a tire blew out, causing her vehicle to crash into a guardrail. The SUV came to rest partially in a travel lane and on the shoulder. After exiting her vehicle, the woman was struck by a southbound tractor-trailer.
The big rig, driven by a 66-year-old man from North Lauderdale, overturned into a nearby ditch. Thankfully, the truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene. All southbound lanes at mile marker 202 were blocked, and traffic was diverted at mile marker 249.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
