Riverside County, CA (August 5, 2025) — A tragic late-night crash involving a wrong-way driver shut down both directions of the Ramona Expressway in Lakeview near Perris, resulting in two fatalities and extensive roadway damage.
According to reports, the deadly incident occurred around 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, near Bernasconi Road. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 2013 Nissan Altima, traveling eastbound, veered into oncoming lanes and collided head-on with a gray Toyota RAV4 SUV. The force of the crash caused the Nissan to spin out, striking a 2015 Kia Optima that had been following behind the SUV.
Both occupants inside the Nissan suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, pending next of kin notification.
Emergency crews, including Cal Fire and CHP, responded quickly and shut down both eastbound and westbound lanes to clear debris and damaged vehicles. Multiple tow trucks were required due to the extensive damage, and a broken attenuator was also reported at the site. Traffic remained heavily affected well into the early morning hours.
