Injury Crash in Oakland, CA — Multi-Car Collision on Hwy 24 Near Old Tunnel Rd (August 4, 2025)

Oakland, CA (August 5, 2025) — A serious multi-vehicle crash during Monday morning’s commute left at least one person with major injuries and caused significant delays on State Route 24 in Oakland.

According to reports, the collision occurred around 7:37 a.m. on August 4 on eastbound Highway 24 near the Old Tunnel Road off-ramp. The crash involved at least three vehicles: a white Tesla, a dark-colored Tesla, and a black Nissan Altima, which reportedly contained a child seat. It is still unclear whether any children were in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Emergency responders, including Oakland Fire and Falk Ambulance, arrived quickly. A victim identified only as “Montez” sustained a major head injury and was transported to Highland Hospital. A woman found “folded over in the center console” of the Nissan was also evaluated at the scene, though her condition was not immediately confirmed.

CHP temporarily shut down multiple lanes during the response and cleanup. By 8:26 a.m., all eastbound lanes had reopened, but heavy traffic continued due to lingering backups.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the Caldecott Tunnel to determine whether speed played a role in the crash.
