Semi-Truck Collision in Newark, NJ — Overturned Rig on NJ Turnpike Causes Major Delays (August 4, 2025)

Newark, NJ (August 5, 2025) – A tractor-trailer crash caused heavy traffic and partial lane closures Monday morning on the New Jersey Turnpike and Routes 1 and 9, after a semi-truck overturned and plunged down an embankment.

According to reports, the crash occurred on August 4 around milepost 107.3, north of Exit 15E. Authorities say the northbound tractor-trailer veered off the roadway to the right, hit a guardrail, and tumbled down the embankment.

The truck was transporting a load of metal at the time of the crash. Emergency responders transported the driver to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The incident forced the closure of two of three northbound truck lanes on Routes 1 and 9, leading to significant delays on both the Western and Eastern Spurs of the Turnpike. Transportation officials urged drivers to reduce speed, remain cautious, and anticipate delays while crews worked to clear the scene and investigate.
