Fillmore, CA (August 5, 2025) – A 71-year-old Piru man was killed and another driver seriously injured in a head-on crash Sunday evening on Highway 126 east of Fillmore, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, the crash occurred around 7:47 p.m. on August 3 near the fish hatchery. Investigators say a 2019 Honda Odyssey, driven by a 53-year-old Ventura man, was traveling westbound at about 60 miles per hour when it crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with a 2010 Volkswagen Passat.
The driver of the Volkswagen, a 71-year-old man from Piru, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Odyssey was transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles with the assistance of the Ventura County Fire Department and other first responders.
One of the vehicles reportedly went off an embankment and came to rest on the south side of the highway. The eastbound lanes of Highway 126 were closed for approximately 45 minutes during the investigation.
