Sturgis, SD (August 6, 2025) — A tragic crash at the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally claimed the life of a 58-year-old man and left multiple others injured over the weekend, casting a shadow over one of the nation’s largest biker gatherings.
According to reports, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety confirmed that the fatal crash occurred on Saturday, August 3, when a man riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson lost control while attempting to navigate a curve. His motorcycle collided with three others during the incident. The Harley-Davidson rider died at the scene, while the other involved riders sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials noted that this was just one of 15 crashes reported across Saturday and Sunday during the weeklong event. In total, 17 individuals were injured in motorcycle-related incidents. Of those hurt, eight were not wearing helmets, and 10 required hospitalization. Seven riders suffered serious, but non-fatal, injuries.
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, a tradition since 1938, draws hundreds of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts to the Black Hills region each year. This year’s rally continues through the week with increased safety monitoring.
