Brutus, NY (August 10, 2025) — A tractor trailer driver was killed and two people were injured Thursday afternoon, August 7, when a rig crossed the median of the New York State Thruway in Cayuga County and struck a car, according to State Police. The crash occurred at approximately 4:57 p.m. in the town of Brutus.
According to reports, the westbound tractor trailer, driven by 50-year-old Mark S. Shidler of Apple Creek, Ohio, crossed the guard rail into the eastbound lanes, colliding with a 2022 Honda. The impact caused the Honda to roll several times, trapping both occupants inside. The driver, 24-year-old John S. Roosa of Syracuse, was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition. Passenger Ashley G. Fay, 22, also of Syracuse, was transported by ambulance to the same hospital and later released. The crash remains under investigation.
