Bakersfield, CA (August 12, 2025) – Two people were killed and two others seriously injured late Friday night in a high-speed crash on Highway 99 in Bakersfield. The collision occurred just after 11 p.m. on August 8 near the South Union Avenue overcrossing, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, a 20-year-old man driving a Chevrolet southbound at a high rate of speed veered onto the west shoulder, striking a metal guardrail. The impact caused the vehicle to spin out of control and crash into the South Union Avenue overcrossing before coming to rest on the west shoulder, partially blocking the number three lane.
A passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Both the driver and the ejected passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
