Encinitas, CA (August 14, 2025) – A local man was killed early Saturday morning following a two-vehicle crash at a busy intersection in Encinitas.
According to reports, 51-year-old Leonard Davison of Encinitas was identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office as the victim in the August 9 crash. The collision occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of La Costa Avenue and Piraeus Street.
Authorities say Davison was driving a pickup truck when it collided with an SUV under circumstances still being investigated. The force of the crash caused Davison’s vehicle to overturn, trapping him inside. Emergency responders extricated him from the wreckage and transported him to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.
