Kansas City, MO (August 14, 2025) – One person was killed and six others were hospitalized after a violent two-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in the northeast part of Kansas City.
According to reports, the crash occurred shortly after midnight on August 14 at the corner of Lexington Avenue and Wabash Avenue. Officers with the Kansas City Police Department said a sergeant with the East Patrol Division was attempting to check on a Hyundai Tucson reported stolen in the area of Independence and Brooklyn avenues.
When the driver of the Hyundai refused to stop, the officer ended the pursuit near Independence and Wabash. Moments later, the Hyundai sped north on Wabash Avenue, blew through a stop sign, and collided with a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee.
One passenger from the Jeep was ejected and later died from their injuries. Four others inside the Jeep, including a juvenile, were critically injured. The Hyundai’s driver and passenger also sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
